I know there's likely no definite way to determine the gender of a ship, nakama or not, but since the beginning of the CP9 arc, I've wondered.
However, I'm currently re-watching 235, and within a 30 second span Usopp call it male and female.
4:30-5:00 minutes in, roughly. (4:45 - "him." 4:58 - "she'll")
I don't really know if it can really be considered an error, but I figured I'd throw this out there.

A ship is always a woman and not just because she can make "berth" >_<.
Oh, nautical humor how little I get to use you.

Hm. Well, in 235 at least, everyone was mainly referring to Merry as a male.

There was an explanation, *spoiler* in 312 when the ship talks it uses a modism in Japanese that only males use *end spoiler*
I think it is in one of the TN of some episode.

This is the main reason. When the decision to switch was made due to this and a couple other factors, there was a little confusion and apparently 235 ended up with both at once, haha. Oh well.
